Take Five: Dev Anand

Today's Take Five is a tribute to Dev Anand, who sadly passed away on Saturday. The actor, who was 88, acted in 114 Hindi films and took the lead role in 110 of them.

Guide - Kya Se Kya Ho Gaya
Based on a novel by R.K. Narayan, Guide is an epic masterpiece of Bollywood film. In Kya Se Kya Ho Gaya, Dev Anand sings agains a backdrop of beautifully choreographed dancers.


Jewel Thief - Dil Pukare 
Directed by Dev Anand's brother Vijay, Jewel Thief is one of Bollywood's best thrillers. Dil Pukare is a lovely Lata and Mohammed Rafi duet set in an incredible landscape.

Mahal - Ye Dunya Waale Poochenge
Dev Anand plays a poor driver in Mahal who is trying to find ways of funding his sister's wedding. Composed by Kalyanji Anandji, Ye Dunya Waale Poochenge  is a classic Asha Bosle and Kishore Kumar duet.

Jonny Mera Naam - Par Bhar Ke Liye 
Used in an episode of The Simpsons which sees Homer working in Bangalore, Par Bhar Ke Liye is a sweet song from Hema Malini and Dev Anand. Hema's house must win the record for having the most windows.
 
Hare Rama Hare Krishna - Phoolon Ka Taron Ka
Directed by Dev himself, Hare Rama Hare Krishna was a hit film with an anti drugs message. Phoolon Ka Taron Ka is often overshadowed by Dum Maro Dum which won Asha Bosle a Filmfare award for best playback singer.
